As part of the cooperation between the University of Goce Delčev (UGD) – Štip and the Macedonian Chamber of Commerce, a session of the Management Board at the Center for Circular Economy was held. The event was attended by the Chamber’s President, Branko Azeski, UGD Rector Prof. Dr. Dejan Mirakovski, and Vice-Rector for Investments, Development, and Maintenance, Prof. Dr. Darko Lazarov, who is also the President of the Exporters Club at the Chamber. The main topic of discussion was the opportunities for advancing circular business models and their implementation in the Macedonian economy.

President Azeski highlighted that Macedonian companies are facing challenges from global economic trends, which impact the domestic economy. He emphasized that the circular economy is crucial for achieving competitiveness in international markets. “The Chamber will continue to be a partner for companies in their efforts for growth and development, especially through innovative approaches like circular models,” added Azeski.

UGD Rector, Prof. Dr. Mirakovski, emphasized the role of the University in this process, highlighting the resources and capabilities of university laboratories. “Our laboratories offer opportunities for detailed waste analysis, as well as for transforming it into useful raw materials. This is a significant opportunity for joint activities between science and industry,” said Mirakovski, while also calling for closer cooperation between the two sectors to minimize waste.

The session also introduced the platform of the Center for Circular Economy, which will serve as a resource for companies interested in the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans. Through the platform, companies will have access to information about current events, training, seminars, and opportunities for joint activities.

The Director of USJE, Konstantinos Nikolaou, presented successful examples of the application of circular economy in their company, emphasizing that USJE has the capacity to take waste from other industries and use it as raw material in its processes.

The session concluded with a discussion on current challenges and opportunities for business development, where participants exchanged experiences and identified potential directions for future joint projects.

UGD once again demonstrated that it is a key partner in the process of creating innovative solutions for sustainable development, actively supporting the integration of science and industry for the benefit of society and the economy.
