UGD and “Alkaloid” signed a Memorandum of Cooperation

Споделете

Goce Delchev University and the company “Alkaloid” in Skopje signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the aim of implementing joint projects to promote and deepen mutual cooperation and expertise.

The Memorandum refers to the implementation of joint projects for professional-applied and scientific research, and the focus will be on the implementation of sustainable pharmaceutical packaging, which will be implemented in several phases until 2030.

The Rector of the “Goce Delchev” University (UGD) in Shtip, Prof. Dr. Dejan Mirakovski, the Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University, Prof. Dr. Milka Zdravkovska, and the General Director/Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Alkaloid” AD Skopje, Zivko Mukaetov, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the aim of implementing joint projects to promote and deepen mutual cooperation and expertise. In addition to the study programs, the ongoing internship programs, as well as the cooperation on specialist papers and doctoral dissertations, the Goce Delchev University in Shtip and Alkaloid will launch a project for the implementation of sustainable packaging for the company’s pharmaceutical products, which will take place over a period of 5 years and will be implemented in three phases.

Namely, it is about fulfilling the compliance with the new European Union regulation on sustainable packaging [Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (EU) 2025/40 (PPWR)], which entered into force on February 11 this year, and by which the pharmaceutical industries are obliged by 2030 to have packaging for their products that will be ready for recycling, and products that will not have such an option will be prohibited from being placed on the markets in the EU and beyond. By 2035, 55% of all packaging in the pharmaceutical industry will need to be recyclable, and by 2038, the Union markets will only allow the placement of pharmaceutical products whose packaging has recycling ratings A and B.

Given the fact that the pharmaceutical industry is one of the most strictly regulated industries in the world, the involvement of the academic community is one of the necessary prerequisites for a more efficient and expedient implementation of this extensive and complex project. The leaders of the projects covered by the Memorandum of Cooperation on the part of “Alkaloid” are the Department of Global Development and the Department of Quality Control, and on the part of the “Goce Delchev” University in Stip, in addition to the rector and dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, are also included Associate Professor Dr. Ivana Mitrevska and Assistant Professor Dino Karpicharov, as responsible for the overall implementation of the activities.

The aim of the project for sustainable packaging of pharmaceutical products will be to minimize the negative impact on the environment and to enable maximum use of resources, which is one of the main goals of the circular economy and one of the key principles of the environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) policy, based on the corporate practice of “Alkaloid”.
